Why You Should Care

If you haven’t been diagnosed with arthritis, that’s great! However, if you suffer from any type of joint pain, it may be time for a medical evaluation to prevent OA from progressing in the first place. Untreated joint pain or OA is not only a burden on your health but also on your wallet.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), individuals with osteoarthritis and joint pain can face an annual income loss of $4,040 compared to those without the condition [1]. Furthermore, the lifetime medical costs associated with managing knee arthritis in the United States can soar to an estimated average of $140,300 [2].

Medications: The Double-Edged Sword

Common medications often prescribed for joint pain/arthritis can unwittingly lead to more problems:

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): Research from the Netherlands unveiled an alarming statistic – regular NSAID use for pain management resulted in a 240% increase in hip arthritis and a 320% increase in knee arthritis development over a six-year study [3]. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) even acknowledges the heightened risk of severe cardiovascular events, myocardial infarctions, and strokes associated with NSAIDs [4].

Cortical Steroids: While some might consider oral cortical steroids a safer option due to their short-term nature, a comprehensive study spanning 2.6 million individuals paints a different picture. High risks of gastrointestinal complications, sepsis, and heart failure were observed, with even higher risks expected in older populations [5]. Additionally, hip osteoarthritis progression and femoral head collapse were found in 24% of patients who underwent hip steroid injections[6].

Opioids: In light of the ongoing opioid epidemic, the CDC strongly advises medical practitioners to explore alternative therapies for pain management [7].

Our Mission

At TPC Regenerative Health, our purpose is crystal clear: to empower you and your loved ones to lead healthy, fulfilling lives, all while steering clear of the pitfalls of opioids, steroids, and risky surgical procedures. Currently, joint pain and osteoarthritis (OA) stands as one of the most prevalent joint diseases, impacting the lives of over 30 million Americans. As we look ahead, the trajectory points to a sharp increase in joint pain and osteoarthritis cases, owing to the rising prevalence of obesity.

A Safer Path Forward, The TPC Approach:

At TPC Regenerative Health, our unique process centers on 4 straightforward stages: Alignment, Activation, Regeneration, and Maintenance.

Step 1 – Alignment: We understand that alignment is fundamental to maintaining joint health. Through Chiropractic Care, we restore proper alignment and stabilize joints, effectively halting the degenerative process.

Step 2 – Activation: Prolo-injection therapy, also known as Prolotherapy, is a preparation phase for LRC’s. Prolo activates the body’s natural growth factors, jump-starting the healing process and prepares the joint for LRC’s. This time-tested technique has delivered consistent results for over 80 years. As good as it is, Prolotherapy is only as effective as the person’s regenerative abilities. As we age, however, these properties are weaker and less efficient.

Step 3 – Regeneration: We harness the power of regenerative medicine by treating tissues with live regenerative cells. Our preferred product, VITTI-PURE from VITTI Labs, offers exceptional support for joints, tendons, and ligaments. Over time, the body produces fewer regenerative factors for repair and rebuilding, making injuries slower to heal. VITTI-PURE, derived from umbilical cord tissue, provides a rich source of growth factors, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, glucosamine, and more. This superior extracellular matrix encourages optimal rebuilding and repair.

Step 4 – Maintenance: What gets you well keeps you well. Our maintenance phase is supported by periodic re-examinations to ensure you avoid going back to square one and maintain the progress you’ve achieved.

Other Complimentary Services: Shockwave has been around since the 1990s. It produces high-energy sound waves, which prompt new blood vessel formation to help stimulate local growth factors to supply the injured site with nutrients, which in turn helps the building blocks of the body’s healing and recovery. Trigger point injections are one of the most effective treatments for myofascial pain syndrome. By injecting a local anesthetic into trigger points, you can quickly relieve muscle tension and pain, which aids in the process of healing local soft tissue along with its corresponding joint.

More Info regarding VITTI-PURE:

Why VITTI-PURE?

Over time, the body naturally produces fewer regenerative factors for repair and rebuilding as represented in the chart (below). This indicates the slowing bio-availability of naturally occurring growth factors as we age, which is why many injuries are very slow to heal or don’t heal at all. VITTI-PURE provides the highest quality tissue support matrix for joints, tendons and ligaments.

VITTI-PURE utilizes umbilical cord tissue to provide a support matrix abundant in young growth factors that support repair and rejuvenation. The umbilical cord tissue is an excellent source of live regenerative cells, glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, and glucosamine as well as other naturally occurring biological materials with excellent building blocks like proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and naturally occurring peptides for structural support and repair.

VITTI-PURE’s superior extracellular matrix (ECM) is minimally manipulated, therefore retaining its advanced growth factor profile of over 1,000 growth factors and 28 types of collagen as well as its complex structural support.

With these components VITTI-PURE creates an optimal product to encourage the rebuilding and repair of injury sites thus optimizing the body’s innate healing potential.

VITTI-PURE is administered in-office. It can be injected into the effected joint(s) to improve, slow or stop the degenerative process of joint pain and/or arthritis while also stimulating collagen production. For best results, and to see if this regenerative product is right for you, an examination from one of our TPC Medical Providers is recommended.

VITTI-PURE contains live regenerative cells including:

  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Elastin’s
  • 28 Collagen Types
  • 2 Collagen Subtypes
  • Nanoparticles
  • Proteins
  • Lipids
  • Nucleic Acids

Dr. Valerie Ferdinand, N.D.

TPC Naturopathic Physician

Dr. Valerie E. Ferdinand is originally from Northern Minnesota, having moved to Portland in 1999. It was here in Portland that she got her Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University in Biochemistry and Micro/Molecular Biology. After finishing those programs she matriculated to National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM/NCNM) and earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine credentials in 2012.

In the last 10 years of practice she has gradually honed her practice to focus on Complex Chronic Disease with a strong emphasis on Immunology and Chronic Pain. It was through this approach that she sought training in Injection Therapies as a way to improve patients’ pain that provided more lasting relief than a medication could provide. Additionally she has attended trainings to review IV nutrition protocols and safety in order to further support the improvement in her patients’ lives.

When not working or researching new approaches to support her patients, Dr. V enjoys spending time in nature with her dog and with friends. Technically she has 2 cats as well – but they don’t go for walks at this time.

Going into her Junior year, Kylie wanted to learn more about the medical field and decided to join the health careers program. She learned about medical terms, ethics, professionalism, anatomy, and physiology along with the basics of healthcare. Through health careers, she applied to a medical assistant program and completed and passed her boards. She is very intrigued by the potential of Regenerative health and how it can help people. Continuing her education is important to her while she decides what Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging program she wants to apply for in the future!
